National Mosquito Control Awareness Week — June 2026

National Mosquito Control Awareness Week arrives in June 2026, and Jackson County Vector Control District is proud to recognize this nationwide effort to highlight the importance of mosquito prevention, surveillance, and public health protection. For 58 years, our district has worked to keep mosquito populations below nuisance levels and reduce the risk of mosquito‑borne diseases for all Jackson County residents.

What This Week Highlights

  • The role of larval and adult mosquito surveillance in tracking seasonal activity
  • How West Nile virus and other pathogens are monitored in Jackson County
  • The importance of source reduction, the most effective and environmentally friendly way to prevent mosquitoes
  • The value of community participation, from draining standing water to reporting concerns
  • The science and fieldwork behind mosquito control, including trapping, testing, and habitat management

How JCVCD Supports the Community

Our team works year‑round to protect public health through:

  • Weekly mosquito trapping from spring through fall
  • Laboratory testing of mosquito pools for disease
  • Mosquitofish distribution for qualifying water sources
  • Public education on prevention and seasonal risks
  • Tick surveillance and Lyme disease awareness

This week is an opportunity to share how these efforts come together to keep our community safe.
