Caring for Mosquitofish

Mosquitofish are Effective at consuming immature mosquito larvae and pupae. They may be placed in your ornamental pond or water feature to prevent the emergence of adult mosquitoes.

When placing mosquitofish in your feature, follow these steps:

*Confirm that the water contains no chlorine or other chemical’s that may harm them

*Maintain a minimum water depth of one foot

*Provide refuge for mosquitofish by including several small objects, such as cinder-blocks, PVC piping or other artificial structures in your feature.

*Place bag containing mosquitofish in water for 1-15 minutes to acclimate your fish, then place fish in feature.

*If no larvae is available to feed on, feed them weekly a few pieces of dry dog food or fish food.

*Mosquitofish are hardy and can tolerate wide temperatures (brief periods of near freezing up to 100F).

*One female Mosquitofish can deliver 40-100 live young per Brood, and they can have up to 3-4 Broods a year.
