🐟 Mosquitofish Season Has Ended — Available Again May 3rd!
As we wrap up our annual distribution period, Jackson County Vector Control District wants to thank all the residents who picked up mosquitofish this year. These small but mighty fish play an important role in reducing mosquito larvae in approved water sources, and your participation helps support healthier neighborhoods across the county.
📌 Mosquitofish Distribution Is Now Closed for the Season
Our program runs each year from May 1st through early fall, and we’ve now completed all pickups for 2026.
📅 Mark Your Calendar: Mosquitofish Return May 3rd, 2027
Starting May 3rd, Jackson County residents will once again be able to request mosquitofish for:
- Decorative ponds
- Water features
- Livestock troughs
- Other approved standing‑water sources
Mosquitofish are provided free of charge to county residents for qualifying locations.
💡 Why Mosquitofish Matter
These fish help control mosquito larvae naturally, reducing the need for chemical treatments and supporting our broader vector‑control efforts. They’re one of the many tools we use to keep mosquito populations manageable and protect public health.

Board of Trustees Places Local Option Levy on the November 2026 Ballot
The Jackson County Vector Control District Board of Trustees — Craig Hility, Mike Taylor, Bruce Jackson, Cal Lanfear, and Robin Norris — has voted to place a local option levy on the November 2026 ballot.
The District requires additional funding to respond to increased demands for service and the rising costs to provide them. The proposed levy is $0.05 per $1,000 of assessed property value (about $1.25 per month / $15 per year for the average property owner).
